The film industry of Sri Lanka today.

An entertainment media like the film industry has been given step- motherly treatment all the time. Of the 345 Cinema halls available till 1979 there were only 235 existing 1985.

While the T.V. viewers amount to 350,000 daily cinema goers daily stood at 90,000.-Of this 58% view mainly Sinhala films; not than 30 films are produced annually and is distributed island wide through 5 exhibition circuits.

Only about 500 are actively involved in the film production process. This compared with a 3500 strong staff at cinema halls presents a Ludicrous picture.
